Pain Management

Pain Management

Pain management is one of the most popular reasons people seek acupuncture.

In Chinese Medicine, pain is the body’s way of communicating an imbalance or obstruction. If left untreated, mild pain can turn into chronic pain escalating into a debilitating condition that may result in depression, anxiety, insomnia, and a diminished quality of life.

Acupuncture works to effectively alleviate pain by stimulating the brain to release natural painkillers (endorphins and serotonin). This process not only helps to relieve pain from a particular injured area, but also helps to relieve systemic pain while providing a sense of emotional well-being and relaxation.

Acupuncture also increases blood circulation, bringing much needed oxygen and nutrients to an injured area, and facilitating healing and a decrease in pain levels.

Numerous large, well conducted studies in the last 10 years have shown that acupuncture is significantly better than no treatment and at least as good as (if not better than) standard medical care for back pain, osteoarthritis, or headache.

Acupuncture for Teenagers & Young Adults

Acupuncture for Teenagers & Young Adults

Acupuncture can be uniquely effective in helping teenagers through a difficult time.

This unique age group undergoes important brain development, hormonal changes, and emotional growth. There are many physical and mental health issues that can result during this transformational time, and these valuable adolescent years tend to shape adulthood. Acupuncture works well for teen emotional health issues because it affects brain chemistry in a positive way.

It is important that a young person is healthy cognitively, physically, and emotionally. Academic, athletic, social, and extra-curricular pressures can affect this transition and quickly result in emotional and physical pain, anxiety, fatigue and other health issues. If not treated, these issues may continue and worsen into adulthood.

According to a recent survey, 70% of young people being treated by acupuncture for pain related conditions reported improvement in their pain symptoms. These conditions included migraine headaches, endometriosis, and nerve pain. Immediate treatment and continued care is optimal because adolescents tend to heal faster than adults. Acute conditions can be addressed quickly and chronic health issues may be prevented.

Women's Health

Women's Health

Acupuncture can help to address a wide range of women’s health issues in a gentle and effective way and with no side effects, while improving a woman’s overall quality of life.

Acupuncture is beneficial for women during all seasons of life, and can help with balancing hormones, reducing stress, and healing the body, so a woman can function at her optimal level.

Many different conditions related to the menstrual cycle and female reproductive systems can be addressed and relieved with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Research has shown that including regular acupuncture treatments in a woman’s health care routine can have positive impacts and results for endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, PCOS, premenstrual syndrome, irregular menstrual cycles and sexual dysfunction.

Acupuncture has proven beneficial for fertility by helping to reduce stress, thicken the uterine lining, promote ovulation, inhibit endometrial or fibroid growth, reduce pelvic inflammation, benefit circulation in the uterus (assisting poor ovarian response or thin uterine lining) and increase responsiveness to hormonal protocols. Additionally, combining acupuncture with ART procedures increased pregnancy rates by 50%.

Both acupuncture and auricular therapy have effectively reduced menopausal hot flashes, while balancing hormones, by decreasing FSH and increasing estrogen. In a controlled study, acupuncture and Chinese herbs provided significant relief for insomnia, hot flashes, mood swings and fatigue in peri-menopausal patients.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is an ancient technique that naturally improves one’s physical appearance.

This holistic facial rejuvenation treatment includes facial gua sha and cupping, along with the insertion of sterile, single use acupuncture needles into points on both the face and the body. Facial acupuncture works by targeting cosmetic issues, repairing internal imbalances, promoting deep relaxation and enhancing overall health and beauty from the inside out.

The benefits of facial acupuncture include:

  • Increased and improved blood circulation, which brightens the complexion

  • Stimulation of collagen and elastin production which leads to the reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improved facial muscle tone

  • Reduction of other skin care concerns such as acne and rosacea, while also addressing any underlying imbalance(s) that may be contributing to their occurrence

Cosmetic acupuncture can be used as a natural alternative to Botox or invasive surgeries. It has many advantages over other facial treatments because it does not cause swelling, there is no recovery time or risk of disfigurement, and it's virtually pain free and cost effective.

For best results ten (up to twenty) consecutive weekly or biweekly treatments are recommended, followed by monthly maintenance treatments.

Common Cosmetic Conditions Treated with Acupuncture

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Sagging skin

  • Acne scars

  • Post-surgical scarring and keloids

  • Hyper-pigmentation

  • Dark circles

  • Large pores

  • Stretch marks

  • Bell’s Palsy (if treated early)
